Quick Take: Why 3D doesn’t work and never will. Case closed. – Roger Ebert’s Journal

I am still on the fence about the fad of 3D, mainly leaning on the side of, “I don’t want it to impact my wallet.” But, the ever more popular and oft-wasted trend, shows no sign of slowing in the near future.

There is the long-running debate now as to whether or not it enhances the film medium or degrades it. I stumbled upon this article from Roger Ebert‘s blog that referred to a letter he received from Walter Murch, one of the most respected editors in the business. He presented Ebert with a more scientific reason why 3D ruins the film experience and why it will not work in the long run. Suffice to say, it is very interesting and well worth your time to read about it. Here is the link:
